NOTE: The August 2017 Yellowstone Excursion is filled. > Add your name to the waiting list.
This program is geared toward outdoor enthusiasts interested in participating in outdoor adventures and field studies in the Rocky Mountains. The excursion will share the ecological legacy of predation by large megafauna in Yellowstone National Park. The geographical area of concentration is the famed Lamar Valley in the Northeast corner of Yellowstone National Park, one of the sites of the 1995-96 wolf reintroductions. There will be hiking, fly fishing, Wildlife observation and photography, exploring natural areas, historical sites, and nearby towns.

Daily Activities

Daily wildlife observations using sophisticated optics and modern cameras equipped with telephoto lenses. Interpretive programs lead by noted wildlife specialists, photographers, wolf-watchers and park biologists. Visits to notable sites such as geyser basins, habitat recovery areas, wolf re-introduction pens, old wolf dens, and lodges that are of interest to the ecology, natural history and culture of the Yellowstone ecosystem.

Total Solar Eclipse

The last time a solar eclipse was visible in the U.S. was February 26, 1979. On August 21, 2017, there will be a total solar eclipse. We will be traveling to the Grand Tetons National Park to view this rare astrological happening.

In almost 99 years, there hasn't been an eclipse that has been this accessible to viewing coast to coast.

Fly Fishing & Instruction

By employing simple, primitive, lightweight equipment involving skillful operational techniques and using artificially prepared enticements resembling insects in various stages of maturation - Joe Allen will provide instruction and equipment in this pristine riparian environment along the Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone River, Wyoming's only federally designated Wild and Scenic River. Ernest Hemingway had a cabin here and was a frequent visitor to the region to fly fish and write.

NOTE: A Yellowstone National Park or Wyoming Non-resident fishing license is required to participate in this artistic activity.
