In-Service Workshops: These workshops are
designed for school and community personnel who are interested in enhancing
their knowledge and abilities in the outdoor classroom. Sessions range from a
half-day experience to an extended series of programs.
Topics to include:
- Being a Naturalist - training participants in the
logistics, mechanics, understandings and joys of being an interpretive
naturalist.
- Field Ecology - developing an appreciation for
ecological principles, relationships and general field studies.
- Curriculum Development - sharing the means to utilize
the outdoor classroom in order to enhance the Science, Social Studies,
Mathematics and Creative Arts curriculum.
Designing with Nature:
Designing With Nature involves the coordination with school, community groups or municipalities with
regard to developing natural areas into nature education facilities. These services may
include the following:
- Site Analysis - includes surveys in the areas of
archeology, habitats, soils, botany and zoology.
- Site Development - involves the development of a Site
Master Plan. This plan usually includes a trail system, teaching demonstration
areas, wildlife management projects and various site improvement
projects.
- Education Programs - may be developed in conjunction
with the site analysis and development aspects of the project or as a separate
nature education program which is well suited to that particular environment.
